Situated on a hillside above the A5004 Long Hill road to Buxton, Fernilee Methodist Church has one of the finest views in the district.Fernilee

It looks over the beautiful Goyt Valley to the wooded hills and open moorland which mark the border between Derbyshire and Cheshire, an area popular for many years with walkers and cyclists from the North and the Midlands.

Coal mining and industry existed side by side with hill farming when the church was built in 1871. Less than a mile from the church was an important gunpowder mill, and the Cromford and High Peak Railway had been running past the site for 40 years. This linked the Peak Forest Canal at Whaley Bridge to the Cromford Canal at Cromford, an important line of communication across the County.

The church sits on the edge of the Peak National Park: the spa town of Buxton is just six miles to the South. There is an hourly train service to Stockport and Manchester and this service also serves Manchester Airport.

Important restoration work was carried out during 1989 and 1999 to bring a modern kitchen and disabled toilet area and a more comfortable and peaceful worship area.

There is active children’s work and great commitment. Worship takes place each Sunday at 2:30pm apart from the first Sunday in the month when there is family worship at 11:00am.
